What qualifies you for a career in fashion over other candidates?

This is the time where you can discuss any achievements that you had while in other fashion related jobs as well as your achievements in school. Give examples of things you’ve learned in class that have translated or could translate to task that you will have at said job.

Where would you like your career in fashion to lead you?

Think long term goals. What is your 70 year life plan? -Maybe you haven’t thought that far ahead, and that’s okay too! This is your time to discuss your BIG  goals!! Make sure you link how this potential career can help you learn more in order to achieve these life goals.

What hobbies do you have that relate to the fashion industry?

Do you read magazines religiously? Can’t start your morning without a cup of coffee and a visit to all your favorite fashion blogs? Are you addicted to Pinterest, Instagram and other social media sites? ITS TOTALLY OKAY! In fact, I’m sure its encouraged! Mention that you are a total addict for these sites who produce imagery that inspire your fashion eye.

How do you describe your personal style?

This question can be a bit tricky. You have to do some serious soul searching. To help you answer this question, you must ask yourself; Why do you wear what you wear? When I go shopping, what encourages that purchase? Take time to deeply examine your shopping and morning dress ritual habits. Notice a pattern? Use that to help you answer this question. Every persons answer will be entirely unique, and that’s the whole point! Be your own person and make sure your interviewer knows you’ve made effort to begin figuring out who you are.

How do you handle conflict?

Step back, take a deep breath, reexamine the situation, and react. Best way to handle any sort of conflict. Make sure you impress your interviewer by highlighting your ability to diffuse situations before they can even lead to a conflict. Broader questions like these, are a great time to give direct examples from situations where you handled any sort of conflict well.

Now go get that job/internship!
